Indian Premier League (IPL) is all about finding a new talent for the nation, giving youngsters an opportunity to perform, make records and create history. Every IPL season has its own charm, excitement and thrill. We have witnessed some amazing performances and extraordinary moments from each one. IPL 2018 was also one such wonderful season. Here are some of the best moments from this year’s tournament.
1. CSK’s Comeback Thriller
Coming back in the tournament after a two year hiatus, Chennai Super Kings started their new innings with a thrilling win over Mumbai Indians. Chasing 166, CSK got home only on the last ball of the match. It was Dwyane Bravo who held his nerve at a stage when CSK was struggling in the middle, and scored 68 from 30 balls to take his team to a victory.
Later in the tournament, MSD’s brilliant captaincy and of course the contribution from all the players took CSK to the final of the IPL 18.
2. KL Rahul’s Fastest Fifty
After playing a few years for RCB, KL Rahul found his new home in the form of Kings IX Punjab in IPL 18 and he started things smashing IPL’s fastest fifty – in just 14 balls! He started his innings like a man possessed. He hit 2 sixes and 3 boundaries in the first two overs of the innings, then the Punjab batsman gave Amit Mishra a time to remember, smashing the leg spinner for 2 huge sixes and 3 boundaries off the first five deliveries.
3. King Rashid Khan
King Rashid Khan was a star of IPL 2018. The leg spinner from Afghanistan was a star performer for SRH both with the bat and ball.
The mystery spinner played an important role whenever his team defended low scores in the tournament. The match winning performance in the second qualifier, scoring 34 runs in 10 balls against KKR and then picking up 3 wickets, was one of the bests that IPL has ever witnessed. He gave his 100% in all the forms whenever his team needed him. This is the reason that the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar mentioned him as the best spinner in the T20 format.
4. Youngster’s IPL
Vivo IPL 2018 will be remembered for the amazing performances by the next generation players.
Uncapped as well as international young players performed extraordinarily well to achieve big feats in the tournament. Youngsters like Rishabh Pant, Shreyash Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Krishnappa Gowtham did an amazing job for their respective teams. Shreyash Iyer was selected as a captain for DD after Gautam Gambhir step down as a Skipper in the middle of the season. Although DD ended up as the last team in the points table, Iyer‘s captaincy impressed everyone. Under 19 stars like Shubham Gill, Prithvi Shaw, also Mayank Markhande, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman did great to impress the cricket experts around the world.
Rishabh Pant‘s outstanding form was the highlight of this season. He has evolved as a new power hitter of the cricketing world. He was awarded as the Emerging player and also fbb Stylish Player this season.
5. ‘No Kane No Gain’ Williamson
Captaining an IPL team for the first time, after replacing David Warner as the Captain of the SRH team, Kane Williamson’s journey as a captain as well as a player was simply excellent this season.
Filling Warner’s shoe, Williamson was the highest run scorer not only for the SRH, but among other players in the tournament. Showing his class and capability, Kane smashed 735 runs at a healthy average of 57.5 in 17 matches.
All apart, he also proved himself extremely well with his leadership qualities in the tournament. SRH ended up as a top team in the points table, becoming the first team to reach the qualifiers. Although, Williamson and team could not win the trophy, but his captaincy and his class batting was one of the best things that happened in IPL 2018.
6. Shane ‘Shocking’ Watson
Wow! What a final it was! What an inning that was! Splendid!
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was back to his brutal best this season. While playing for the first time for CSK, he gave justice to his spot in the team. He scored 2 hundreds this season and the second ton came just right on time. He scored a scintillating 117 not out in the final to help CSK clinch their third IPL title. Watson smashed 8 gigantic sixes and 11 fours in that inning.
