IPL 2018 Updates: Ex-RCBian (and RR) Mohammad Kaif, who has now acquired a new career as a coach, also maintains a good profile in writing.
In a recent interview, he was asked to pick up four IPL teams that could qualify for the playoffs this season. Kaif picked up three teams that he believed could surely qualify while the last one has a close competition. So, which teams will qualify for the IPL 2018 Playoffs?
Kaif’s Top Four That Could Enter the Playoffs
Dhoni’s CSK is the first favorite to enter playoffs and there’s no doubt to the choice. CSK had a splendid 2018 session and hopefully, they will enter the finals if they perform at the same pace. With Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Du Plesis doing their best jobs in the opening slots, Raina, Dhoni, are the big guns of CSK. Bravo’s inclusion and the consistent bowling performance of Thakur and the co, makes them one of the first contenders to enter Playoffs.
Kaif’s second and third pick were Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. Some solid performances by SRH and a good captaincy by Ashwin for KXIP has helped prove both the teams best performing ones of IPL 2018.
After Warner’s fallout, people assumed SRH lost its backbone and they were no more the favorites. But Williamson’s calmness and team’s consistency brought them at the top of the table. For KXIP, controversies has always placed the team behind in the rating charts every year. But this time, Ashwin’s XI changed the scenario and made it a challenging squad.
People started questioning the exclusion of Yuvraj to Ashwin. But his dedication towards the game kept him away from any controversies, and the team is performing way better than any previous sessions.
The last choice of Kaif involves a close competition. With their last defeat to SRH, Virat Kohli‘s Royal Cheallengers Bangalore (RCB) are no more the part of Playoff challenge, though they could still win the hearts of their fan by winning the rest of matches. RR and KKR are among the two contenders. One of them could enter Playoffs based on their upcoming performances.
Defending Champions MI and DD Failed to Make a Mark in IPL
Mumbai Indians boasts three IPL titles. But they would like to forget this year’s performances and come back with a better benchmark strength. They lacked passion, power and consistency. Mumbai Indians were highly expected to make a good comeback in the later half of the tournament. However, now that seems unlikely.
Delhi Daredevils had some management issues with Gambhir, who decided to give up the captaincy and his match fees to the Franchise. Shreyas Iyer was appointed as captain of DD and the team did well under him. But it was too late for DD to create an opportunity for Playoffs. Next year, they may come up with more versatile players who could prove to be the game-changers, helping DD win their inaugural title.
